Atenea: a new collection

000

I’m happy to be posting about these pieces finally. They are inspired by Greek and Roman mythology, specifically Athena, the “goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. Minerva, Athena’s Roman incarnation, embodies similar attributes. I have a soft spot for ancient jewelry and ancient techniques, and that’s what I wanted to recreate with this collection.

I made these from brass sheet and silver half jump rings with balled up ends. The brass, with its temperamental attributes, seems to interact with the person wearing the necklace, reacting to body chemistry and changing colors. The warm golden and reddish tones in the metal were a product of the heat from the torch when I balled up the silver wire unions. I decided to embrace the patinas that the metal naturally obtained, and have been pleasantly surprised by how much I like its changing nature.

These pieces are very flattering and comfortable. And there are more coming.

Some photos from holy week

This past week in Costa Rica was a holiday. I went to this wonderful place with my family to relax, work a little, collect some rocks and see what edible wild things I could find (of the plant variety). The view from the house is breathtaking, right?! And the view from my room was pretty great as well (you can see my stuff spilled everywhere on the desk). The weather was warm and sunny, which is amazing, considering it rains all year round there in Orosi. Some friends came to spend the day and we ventured out on some off roading adventure and even got our swimsuits on and braved the ice cold water in the river (dunked our heads in and all!).

My cousin was really cool and she lent me her nice camera so I could take some new photos of my work, so here you go. Enjoy!

It’s nice when pictures are taken with a real camera instead of a phone right?

3 new rings

One just for me and the other two are negotiable. The blue stone is a very lovely kyanite, bezel set, very simple. The other fatter babies are the zebra rings in silver, finally! I think the color suits them, don’t you?

Once I take some nice pictures I’ll post them in the shop.
